Basil Chicken with Green Lentils

Green lentils and basil chicken, high in protein dinner - Photo by popular fitness

By eating the right combination of foods, you can increase your protein intake without having to take protein supplements which tend to be very expensive these days, or at least limit how much you do use because you are consuming a lot or enough protein already through your daily meals.

In this dinner plate I have added the vegetable green lentils to my meal. Green lentils are extremely high in protein, 24 grams of protein per 1/2 cup. Extremely high in folate (about 50% of RDI, some sources claim more) and a great source of Vitamin B6, iron, magnesium, fiber and other vitamins and minerals. They are also very inexpensive to buy.

Combined with chicken which is also very high in protein and brown rice with beets and green beans which has quite a bit of protein too, this is a perfect dinner plate for after a weight training or strength training workout. It’s simple to prepare, delicious and best of all, you wouldn’t have to supplement your diet with any protein powder after your workout! It can be prepared ahead of time too and reheated to limit your overall cooking time.
